How much does a celebrant cost?

Why is there so much variation between what celebrants charge for a full service ceremony?

Some celebrants charge as little as $500 while others charge over $2000.

To be honest, even I get confused.

This is what I know.

Price is no reflection on experience - there are a lot of inexperienced, newly trained Perth celebrants jumping right in to the market at over $1200. And there a lot of very experienced celebrant charging $750 and less.

'You get what you pay for" doesn't count. Many of Perth's best marriage celebrants are not charging over $1200, myself included.

Why do 'full time' celebrants charge more? I don't know. Some of them say it's because they are paying a mortgage, tax (don't we all?) and superannuation. But, ask yourself this. Would you rather pay that extra $500 they're charging off their mortgage, or your own? Do you get paid more at your job because you have a larger mortgage than someone else, doing the same job?

Supply and demand matters. Some celebrants choose to only do one wedding a week, or less. This could be due to having other work commitments or young children. The more demand there is for them, the more they can charge.

Personalised ceremonies cost more because they are much more time consuming. If you've received a cheaper quote and want a personalised, unique ceremony, check with the celebrant.

As a guide, to have a 'legal wording only' marriage ceremony at the Perth Registry Office (Births, Deaths and Marriages) will cost you $432, and your celebrant budget should certainly not be any lower than that.

You will find your perfect Perth wedding celebrant with a budget of between $750 to $1200.
